OUR HEARING GOD'S VOICE RESOURCES

Tools for equipping the next generation to personally hear from God and walk the Spirit-led life

"...but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a GENTLE WHISPER."

1 Kings 19:11b-12

Who created science, holds the hearts of kings, causes nations and kingdoms to rise and fall, owns the cattle on a thousand hills, knows what we need before we even ask, and can tell the end from the beginning?  Do we really have access to this God as His children?  The answer is YES!

God wants to lead our children and us through His Logos Word (Bible) and Rhema voice to fruitfulness and blessings, sometimes financially, spiritually, relationally, emotionally, etc.  It is vital to train our children to hear God's Rhema voice, so they can walk by the Spirit's leading into the fullness of the lives God desires to give, thereby glorifying God and blessing others as well.  Through prayer, Bible reading, and journaling, children will develop a personal relationship with their Creator, unlike anything the world will ever comprehend.

QUIET TIME BASICS

One of the greatest gifts we could give our children is making quiet time with God a priority in our homes.  With Bible reading, prayer, and journaling the next generation will find a God who is relational and speaks.  They will also discover that this God has a plan for their lives, including good works that he destined for them to do since the beginning of time.  We have developed tools to guide children and youth through Scriptures that give promises, wisdom, and examples for how and why to study God's Word, how and what to pray, and how God can speak.  Journaling is also an excellent tool as we learn to hear God's voice.

BIBLE READING

Children must learn the Logos Word cover to cover and be instructed to obey the Lord and His commandments.  However, God desires to speak His Rhema word directly to our children.  As they study His Word, may they know His promises, their next steps, and who God is.  May they also receive His correction and live exceptional, Christlike lives.

PRAYER

Prayer is talking with God.  In order to have a relationship with someone, listening is required.  It is important to teach our children how to pray, including hearing from God.  How are we to pray?  What are we to pray about?  How often are we to pray?  Does God hear me and know what I need?  Is it okay to ask repeatedly for the same request?  May we lay the foundational truths about speaking to and hearing from God.

JOURNALING

Journaling is a powerful, timeless tool to learn and reflect upon God's Word, talk to God, and record what we think He's saying.  So often we forget when God answers our prayers and to say thank you.  Sometimes, we need to really tell God how we are feeling.  Our questions are often answered through a timely verse from the Lord, but did we write it down, meditate upon it, and allow it to guide us?  Our faith and children's faith can then see a pattern of answered prayer and confirmed, divine wisdom to act upon.

WHY CREATE A
QUIET TIME?

My Story:  Sheket Bevakashah!

In March 2020 during the COVID shutdowns, I was busy home-educating during the day and writing late into the night.  In the quietness of our school room, I was deeply engrossed in my first writing project, the Level 2 Year 1 Bible Guide, with my beautiful Golden Children's Bible, my worn-out burgundy NIV© Bible, pencil, pen, and overworked computer.  I was in a tough situation at that time because of personal choices that the Lord had made known were wrong, and I looked for every opportunity possible to listen to a sermon, read the Bible for myself, journal, and pray because the Lord would encourage me that despite the consequences He was requiring me to walk in, I would be doubly blessed and anointed to minister unto Him as I repented and followed His voice.

In a moment, I thought I heard the word resembling, "Sheketa."  I froze because I had never heard such a word before and wondered if the Lord was trying to help me, so I immediately googled it and was amazed to find it as part of a Hebrew phrase, "Sheket Bevakashah!" Wow, it IS a Hebrew word!  God, I think I heard you right.  What does this mean?  As I read the description of this phrase, it described its English translation as, "Quiet, please!" used by instructors to quiet the children in Hebrew schools.  The Hebrew students would respond with, "Hey!" often raising their fists and always followed with silence.  Later, I read that sheket means quiet when used on its own.

I knew immediately with full conviction of heart that the Lord was prompting me to not only build a curriculum that was designed to help children and youth read His Logos (written) Word.  He was also calling me to train children to develop a quiet time to pray, journal, and hear His Rhema voice.  I could only imagine the power that would come from generations trained to hear God's voice and follow His Spirit as it would lead them through each day and each season, rest and vigorous times of work, building new ministries, providing for the needs of others, building up the body of Christ in the way they are wired to do so, etc.

See, it took until I was thirty to understand that God could speak to someone ordinary like me.  And from that moment, I experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.  Oh, what I would give to have been trained to hear His Rhema voice, discern, understand His timing, learn how to still submit to the authority in my life during times of waiting, and so much more.  I only hoped to make it an expected occurrence for my children's generation and equip them to handle it with enthusiasm but also soberness.  What a privilege we have to serve a God who desires to speak to us!  May the next generation and all generations thereafter experience the promise in Joel 2:28, so we the Body of Christ would operate in its full power, blessed and fruitful, and the world will be changed by our love and testimony.

Joel 2:28

"And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions."
