LEVEL 1
READING AND WRITING THROUGH THE BIBLE

Ready and available for 1st and 2nd Grade!

Level 1 with The Complete Illustrated Children’s Bible©

About

This is a complete, two-year (70-week) language arts program that disciples children through the stories of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.  It helps early readers develop and grow in their reading, phonics, language, grammar, spelling, and writing skills.  This program also helps children develop a quiet time with God by journaling their prayers and reflections on the Word of God.

For Whom?

This Level 1 program (of 4 levels total) is written for early readers who have mastered their alphabet and the sound each letter makes, and ideally, students would also be able to read basic three-letter words (consonant-vowel-consonant), such as cat, mop, and dad.  Therefore, this program may be used for first and second-graders meeting those criteria.  However, some older students may benefit greatly and find this program to challenge them.  This would include students who have not yet mastered phonics, struggle to read fluently, and/or have difficulty spelling words written phonetically or second-grade-level common words.

Unique

This program is unique in its depth of discipleship and training in the Word of God and simplicity of use for the student, classroom, and family while thoroughly meeting the educational goals for developing early readers and writers.

  1. Discipleship + Language Arts: Students go through select Bible stories from Genesis to Revelation in two years and read select Scripture passages while acquiring necessary language arts skills.  They will also learn to develop a quiet time with God.

  2. Simple Two-Year Program: Language arts is streamlined around the stories and lessons from the Bible.  Workbooks, flashcards, and exercises are simplistic and easy to follow week to week.

  3. Mastery-Focused:  Phonics and Common Words are mastery-focused and utilized in phonics exercises, language exercises, and supplementary phonics stories.  Therefore, the content is written based upon only what has been learned thus far.  This leads to less frustration from the student and recognition of areas needing help.

  4. Phonics + Whole Word Recognition:  Reading skills are focused upon the basic building blocks of the English language through learning the phonetic special sounds.  However, practicing common words and reading the Bible stories allow for some whole word recognition, also.

  5. Teacher, Family, and Classroom-Friendly:  Level 1 may be used with early readers in all types of educational settings, including homeschool, co-op or cottage school, or traditional school.  Lessons require little preparation time for the parent and teacher and can be taught to and used with students at slightly different levels.  Student growth is maximized with purposeful exercises, the use of both mastery and cyclical learning, opportunities for individualized student goals, and methods to equip teacher and parent cooperation with ease.
